Car Insurance Oldsmobile (Car Insurance). Punto 2001 steering problems?Punto 2001 steering problems? Hi just after some general advice really before i go to the dealership so i don't sound like a complete moron! I have a 2000 punto elx which has electric steering. The red light of doom has come on again. It does this from time to time and always solves itself- which is why i think it is a lose connection rather than a bigger problem. Just wondering if anyone has any idea what it could be because its intermittent and how to fix it. Also i have my mot in four weeks would the car pass the MOT with the red light of doom on? You can drive it but its very heavy. Thanks Emma, common fault with that model, at the bottom of the steering column is the motor, there's a 10 pin multi-plug wiring connecter going in to it, this plug is known to come loose,it will put the EPS light on intermitently on the dash and make your steering heavy, remove the plug and spray some elec contact grease in it and replace the plug FIRMLY, bit fidly but you should be able to do it, all the best 'Red light of doom' lol. unfortunately the car will not pass the mot without the power assisted steering not working. I think that most electric steering systems work off of the alternator, but like you say, it sounds like you have a loose connection problem, Best to get it checked out, Emma, listen to MMM. Recently my s40 has been shutting off while I idle during stop signs or red lights, or when im just stalled for a few seconds. The entire car begins to tremble right before shutting off, right after shut down all the car alerts in the dashboard turn on. I have to set it in Park and Turn it on again. How to Replace the Door Hinge Pins for a 1994 Mercury CougarWhen the door becomes loose or starts to sag on a 1994 Mercury Cougar, the door's brass bushings are to blame; the door must be lifted in order to match the door latch with the striker. The door hinge repair kit comes with two door pins and four brass bushings per door. The hinges can be replaced by the average DIY mechanic, although the task is easier done with the help of an assistant. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Floor jack Hammer Drift Flat-head screwdriver Step by Step : 1 Lower the window. Open the door all the way and place the floor jack under the middle of the door. Raise the floor jack just enough to begin to lift the door. 2 Hammer the door pins up and out of the door hinges. Use the drift, if necessary, to get more impact on the pins. 3 Support the door with one hand and move it away from the hinges just enough to extract the brass bushings. Use the screwdriver to remove the bushings. 4 Install the new bushings in place of the worn bushings, then ease the door hinges back over the frame hinges, making sure that the bushings stay in place. This is the hard part. Use the floor jack, as necessary, to level the door; watch that you do not scratch the paint on the door by allowing it to contact the corner of the fender. 5 Align the door-hinge holes. Insert the new door hinge pins through the holes and the bushings. Use the drift and hammer to tap the door hinges pins all the way down.
